The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes are located on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in the town of Owyhee, Nevada. The reservation is located in a beautiful green valley on the Idaho and Nevada border. The site for this reservation was selected by Captain Sam, a Shoshone leader who compromised the plentiful wild game, anadromous fish, wild berries, fertile valley soil, and the abundance of water. It was determined this place has the greatest potential for prosperity.
It was established by Executive Order on April 16, 1877. Additional land was annexed to the reservation to accommodate the influx of Shoshone-Paiute people in 1886, and 1910. Today, approximately 2,300 Shoshone-Paiutes hold membership within the Tribes
