Administrative Coordinator - Job Description
JOB TITLE: Cansayapi Wicoicage Oti Administrative Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Intergenerational Cultural Incubator
REPORTS TO: Community Council
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
STATUS: Full Time
SALARY GRADE: NCB/NCF
SUMMARY:
The purpose of the Lower Sioux Intergenerational Cultural Incubator is to expand art and cultural
awareness, skills and support business development through intergenerational learning, production,
and transmission at Cansayapi. The Incubator will foster both traditional arts such as pottery, quilting,
quilling, beading, regalia, traditional foods, dance, singing as well as contemporary, technology-based
art forms including videography and graphic design in the new 15,950 square foot Incubator, which
will open in 2021 adjacent to the existing Recreation Center at Lower Sioux. By leveraging our
artistic traditions and skilled membership, the Incubator will help strengthen the economic health of
the Lower Sioux Community and the region. By 2030, the Incubator will train over 1,200 members
and launch over 140 entrepreneurs. To ensure success, the Wicoicage partners closely with many
departments across the Community, including Youth/Rec, Community Health, Education, and Human
Services.
The Administrative Coordinator will serve as one of three lead Coordinators for the Wicoicage
Incubator: The Administrative Coordinator, the Arts Coordinator, and the Entrepreneurship
Coordinator. Together, this three-member leadership team will lead all aspects of the Incubator’s
success. They will partner closely with all other departments within the tribal government and with
external partners:
• The Administrative Coordinator will focus on administrative, financial, and operational functions
of the Wicoicage.
• The Arts Coordinator will focus on the designing and overseeing the arts training and on building
relationships with the artists to grow their artistic skills, responsible for training at least 100 youth
and adults annually.
• The Entrepreneurship Coordinator will focus on designing and overseeing the financial, business,
and entrepreneurship training and coaching for the arts entrepreneurs, responsible for training at
least 50 youth and adult trainees annually. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A.A. degree preferred. Five years related arts, administrative, and/or operational experience will be
considered. Previous leadership experience working in a Native and/or tribal community required.
Knowledge of and experience in asset and culturally based community development strategies.
Strong written and oral communications required, including an interest in Dakota Iapi and indigenous
arts. Training and mentoring experience preferred. Grant and report writing experience is preferred.
Budgeting and financial reporting experience is preferred. IT experience preferred. Business
experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of the Vision, Mission, Goals, and
Strategic Plan for the Incubator in partnership with the Community.
• Contributes to the implementation, operation, and evaluation of the Incubator in accordance with
project goals, objectives, and established timelines.
• Serves as point person for the Wicoicage to the Community.
• Is responsible for developing and tracking annual Wicoicage budget, in partnership with the
Coordinator team.
• Writes grant proposals and grant reports to secure external funding for Wicoicage, in partnership
with the Coordinator leadership team and Planning/Grants.
• Oversees Physical Building care, upkeep, and cleaning.
• Facilitates, manages, and communicates the programming and event schedule for the Wicoiage,
working closely with the Arts, Entrepreneurship, Health, Education, Youth/Rec, and other
departments.
• Maintains and updates all registration files for arts, entrepreneurship, and other classes.
• Manages Trading Post/Ordering/Supplies.
• Manages community wide space rentals as a strategy to generate income for and safekeeping of
Wicoicage.
• Supports IT functions within the Wicoicage operations.
• Co-Organizes and hosts two annual community art events (with co-coordinators)
• Regular attendance necessary.
• Regular punctuality necessary.
• Available and willing to work any changes in hours on the schedule at any time during
employment.
• Other duties as assigned.
