Cemetery Administrator & Resource Coordinator
Nooksack Indian Tribe
JOB SUMMARY:
Work together with the Cultural resource Department, and the tribal landscape crew, the tribal grave diggers, the cemetery committee, and the community to ensure the proper care, maintenance, and preservation of the Nooksack Indian Tribal Cemeteries. The intent of this position is to preserve and protect our sacred cemetery grounds and grave sites, and to maintain data of our deceased members by using cultural traditions, cemetery computer programs, and communication with tribal leaders, cemetery committee and the Nooksack Tribal Community.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assure traditional and cultural beliefs are followed, as understood by Nooksack People.
2. Inspect Cemeteries on a weekly basis.
3. Ensure that vandal repairs are made, to fencing, benches and signs are done in a timely fashion.
4. Report damaged headstones/markers.
5. Coordinate with tribal landscaping department to assure the cemetery is kept tidy and clean and cultural practices are respected.
6. Coordinate chairs, tents, port-a-potties, etc. for funerals (at the cemetery).
7. Assist in identifying unmarked grave sites with Cultural Department.
8. Report cemetery needs to the Natural/Cultural Director.
9. Report and follow up on legal matters with the Natural/Cultural Director.
10.Plan and coordinate quarterly cemetery committee meetings.
11.Assist with the data entry into the cemetery computer program.
12.Manage and coordinate burial assignments of vacant lots in the Jobe Cemetery for the Nooksack Tribe.
13.Coordinate set up for funeral services at the Nooksack Tribal Community Building
14.Assist Nooksack families with the Nooksack funeral assistance application process.
OTHER DUTIES:
Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

Ÿ Indian Preference Policy applies to this and all positions with the Nooksack Indian Tribe.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
· Knowledge of Nooksack Cultural, and traditional beliefs
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION:
· Good organizational skills
· Must be able to multi-task and detailed oriented.
· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
· Must be willing to assist with preparation and service of ceremonial objects, materials, and protocol.
· Must know how to work with Tribal elders in a respectful caring manner.
· Able to work irregular hours and occasional weekends.
REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Must be Nooksack Tribal Member.
Ÿ Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment.
Ÿ Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter.
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
· Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe. (Must Provide Driving Abstract at time of hire).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.):
· Frequent standing/walking while performing office duties: walking short distances performed throughout shift on tile, carpet or concrete.
· Ability to occasionally lift 1-50 lbs.: Occasional requires pushing or pulling using both arms/hands with required force of 5-20 lbs.
· Frequently required to bend at waist/knees.
· May kneel or crouch occasionally to retrieve items from ground level.
· Work is primarily performed in the office and occasionally outdoors possibly in inclement weather.
