SUMMARY:

The Three Sisters Program is responsible for advocating and supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and family violence. They are responsible for carrying a multiple caseload and offering support when victims encounter rape, domestic violence and sexual assault. The Three Sisters Advocate is also responsible for bringing awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Three Sisters Program to community members and networking agencies. Reports to the Three Sisters Program Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to crisis intervention with hospital, law enforcement, transportation to and from rape crisis center, or hospital
  • Transport, if necessary, and accompany to court
  • Use other resources in developing safety for victim
  • Provide intake assessments, information and direct assistance to victims of violence
  • Schedule weekly one on one sessions with each client
  • Develop and maintain a database of victims of violence
  • Case management with Program Manager on a routine basis
  • Promote safety and healing for victims of domestic violence sexual assault and their families
  • Follow up with Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police on domestic violence sexual assault incidents
  • Network with organizations that deal specifically with domestic violence and/or sexual assault
  • Provide legal advocacy, such as retrieval information on orders of protection, transportation, etc.
  • Submit monthly reports to Supervisor in a timely manner
  • Develop goals and objectives with each victim
  • Provide information on sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking
  • Bring awareness of the Three Sisters Program, sexual assault and other forms of violence to the community
  • Serves as on-call in the evenings and on weekends, based on a rotating schedule
  • Develop articles on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking
  • Develop flyers, brochures and posters on domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Attend awareness events and distribute promotional items
  • Set up radio broadcasts and radio spots to promote the program and to educate on domestic violence and sexual assault

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP: Works closely with Program Manager. Provides a broad variety of administrative support in the domestic violence and sexual assault program. Emphasis on data collection, word processing, independent working and thinking skills, and excellent communications skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates in Sociology, Psychology and/ or two-year degree in Social Work
  • Knowledge of sexual assault; domestic violence, dating violence and stalking
  • Knowledge of the agencies of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and programs relating to domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of computer basics
  • Must have the ability to understand and evaluate the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims
  • Maintains confidentiality of clients and staff

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to work weekends and/or evenings
  • Comply with all personnel policies
  • Represent organization in a positive and professional manner in the community

This job is contingent upon funding; however, availability of funding is not a guarantee of continued employment, nor does it imply any specific term of employment.

REASONING ABILITY: The Three Sisters Advocate of the Three Sisters Program shall have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Internal: Maintain regular contact with the Supervisor to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with the Supervisor for advice, counsel and handling of caseload.

External: Maintains contact with internal/external community groups and others to assist in resolving problems the victims may encounter.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other professionals and team members. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks. Flexible and adaptive. Knowledge of community resources.

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
