GENERAL STATEMENT

Responsible for the complete oversight of all school reform-related activities at the state, federal and local level. Oversees the maintaining and complete documentation of all school reform, accreditation and professional development records and correspondence, and coordinates the activities required for transformation of the school through the school improvement process. Works with parents and families to raise academic performance, encourage and develop parental involvement, and improve student’s daily attendance, thus increasing graduation rates and decreasing dropout rates.

SUPERVISION

Will be supervised and evaluated by the School Administrator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the process of licensing and accreditation for Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School to include programs, representatives and instructors.
  • Assist the Administrator in applying for additional school funding grants and help maintain documentation required by funding grants.
  • Research and provide updates to the Administrator and School Board on impending or recent changes to federal and state legislation, as needed.
  • Maintain communication with the Idaho State Department of Education, Bureau of Indian Education and other outside groups to keep abreast of changes to laws or regulations.
  • Assist in reviewing accreditation, school reform and professional development correspondence and monitor deadlines and due dates for all related activities.
  • Quickly and consistently, assimilate knowledge and interpretation of accreditation regulations and standards; communicate changes to Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School.
  • Assist the school Leadership Team in creating school improvement plans and help them implement those plans in preparation for accreditation visits.
  • Monitors professional development services (e.g. consultant’s course outcomes, training staff, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that performance outcomes are achieved within budget, department, and district objectives.
  • Maintains documentation of all activities that occur within the scope of the school.
  • Coordinates with district and building administrators, a variety of committees, etc. for the purpose of serving as a liaison and resource, identifying training needs and/or coordinating professional development services within the District.
  • Assist the Administrator and other program leaders in developing, implementing monitoring and evaluating all professional development plans and other programs, grants and related partnerships.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the District’s Professional Development Plan.
  • Assure that all functions are consistent with applicable state and federal regulations, policies and programs and the District’s educational goals, objectives and policies.
  • Guiding leaders in developing and sustaining school Leadership Team that is focused on continuous improvement in order to increase student achievement.
  • Guiding the Leadership Team and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in creating school improvement plans that are action plans with measurable goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of local and federal written reports.
  • Ensure that professional development support is planned, implemented, and monitored to directly support the school staff and affect student achievement.
  • Serve on committees and councils concerned with the School Improvement.
  • Work directly with the site administrator, teachers, parents and students regarding educational strategies and program implementation.
  • Organize and prepare agendas for staff meetings; professional development release time, and work in PLCs.
  • Answer phone to take messages or redirect calls to appropriate colleagues.
  • Provide direct assistance to administration team.
  • Recruit, organize and facilitate parent involvement committees and their meetings.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to change(s).
  • Projects a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Provide home school visits when time allows. Provide monthly reports to School Board and school administrator.
  • Plan needed workshops for parents and students.
  • Develop an ongoing procedure for establishing and maintaining a positive rapport with parents.
  • Will work closely with students at risk of dropping out of school.
  • Will work closely with students with attendance issues in school.
  • Work closely with teachers/staff regarding student attendance, academics, behaviors, IEPs and 504s.
  • Maintain a log of services provided to students and parents, including: student progress notes, contact notes, and referrals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duties and responsibilities will include other activities and areas as needed to carry out position functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or similar field with 2 or 3 years direct experience in accreditation, school reform, professional development and certification.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation and applicable accreditation and state certification requirements.
  • Ability to manage project timelines in a fast-paced work environment ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and follow through on work.
  • Knowledge of characteristics of students attending Sho-Ban School.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students.
  • Experience working with computers, specifically Microsoft, Word, and Excel is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Fort Hall area, community, and customs of the residents.
  • Must work well with school faculty and other personnel.
  • Must have the ability to work around 6th - 12th grade students.
  • Must have proof of a valid Driver’s license and insurable through the Tribes insurance carrier.
  • A background investigation must be acceptable under the provisions of the policies of the Shoshone-Bannock School District #537, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act. Permanent employment status will be contingent upon the results of a Criminal Background check.
  • Must be able to pass alcohol/drug screen.
  • Must demonstrate ability in interpreting and applying laws, regulations, resolutions, and policies.
  • Employment history must prove creditability and dependability.
  • Self-starter, completes tasks in a timely manner, and must possess ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and execute a variety of complex written and oral instructions.
  • Past employment must demonstrate exceptional organizational capabilities.
  • Applicants with knowledge of the Privacy and Freedom of Information Act and other laws applicable to the position are preferred.
  • Applicants for management positions are required to submit to pre-employment background and
  • credit checks and the results will be used to determine suitability for employment with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe.

To verify Indian Preference Shoshone-Bannock Tribal member applicants must provide a copy of their tribal enrollment card. Non-enrolled members and other Indian tribal members must provide a Certificate of Indian Blood from their tribal enrollment office or from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Pre-employment applicants being considered for employment or a political appointment, must submit to an alcohol and drug screening prior to being hired or appointed. Refusal to take the test will render the applicant ineligible for employment or political appointment with the ShoshoneBannock Tribe. Applicants who test positive for alcohol or banned drugs will not be hired and will be ineligible for any type of employment with the Tribal Government for 90 days thereafter per the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Substance Abuse Policy, Resolution PRSL-98-0405.
