GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will assist the teacher in planning and implementing educational programs for pre-school children. This is a non-exempt position and reports to the Head Start Manager.  This position is full-time during the Head Start school year, which is 42 weeks/year.  Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding allocation.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

  1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
  3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
  4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays
  5. Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Build an understanding of the Head Start program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, and the community.
  2. Assist lead teacher prepare daily detailed classroom plans incorporating the following domains of early learning and development; physical, health, social, emotional, approached to learning, language, literacy, mathematics, science, and creative arts expression, logic & reasoning, social studies with a strong emphasis on the children’s own cultural heritage.
  3. Assist lead teacher to implement daily classroom curriculum plans utilizing current curriculum for Head Start and carry out activities by helping children acquire meaningful content knowledge; ensuring that learning experiences are based on information that is current, accurate, and focused at the children’s level of understanding.
  4. Help the Head Start program achieve its goals by staying informed of pertinent day-to-day activities and adjusting own work accordingly.
  5. Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for children, families, and staff.
  6. Organize materials required for daily use in educational activities.
  7. Participate in parent meetings and individual conferences as directed.
  8. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely written observations on children.
  9. Plan and implement projects to help children develop positive feelings about themselves and their heritage.
  10. Must perform housekeeping duties daily in all areas that Head Start children have access to; Classrooms, Restroom, and Dining Room areas.
  11. Attend meetings, seminars, and workshops as required.
  12. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  13. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  14. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  15. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  16. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
  17. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Diploma, HSED Diploma or GED Certification is required.  (MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATION TO COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION)
  2. Child Care I & II Certification are required.  (Must submit a copy of certificate).
  3. Must be willing and able to obtain additional education and training. Receive the Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) within 6 months of date of hire or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education within (2) years of date of hire.
  4. Current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred or willingness to obtain and maintain a CDL if required by program needs.
  5. Six (6) month previous successful experience working at an early childhood setting is preferred.
  6. Must complete certification on Mandated Reporting, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Shaken Baby Syndrome is required within (90) days of employment.
  7. Continuing education to maintain degree is required
  8. 8.      Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications or willingness to obtain these certifications within (30) days of date of employment is required.  Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.
  9. 9.      Familiarity with Native American Culture (especially Stockbridge-Munsee Community culture) is preferred.
  10. 10.  Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, laminator, television, copy, and fax machine is preferred.
  11. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    a.  Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
    b.  Occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.
    c.  Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple and firm grasping.
    d.  Applicants must complete a self-disclosing Physical Questionnaire prior to start of employment.
  12. Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters.  (Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to start of employment.)
  13. Must be willing and able to obtain additional education and training.
  14. Must pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.  Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.  A Tuberculosis (TB) screening and/or TB Skin Test is required prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  15. Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
  16. Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.  This includes obtaining an elder/youth license.
  17. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within thirty (30) days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.  Must be authorized as eligible to operate a personal and tribal vehicle under the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Vehicle Drivers Policy prior to actual start date.  Must maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment.
  18. Stockbridge-Munsee Community Food Safety Certification is required with in three (3) months of employment.  Must maintain Food Safety Certification during employment.
  19. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  20. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
  21. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
