Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Chief Investment Officer/Director of Treasury, perform research and analysis on investment strategies and investment holdings.  Serve as a resource to the department, Tribal Council, and Investment Committee.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to in-depth process and procedure when performing initial due diligence and ongoing review of third party asset managers and strategies, including the qualitative review of the manager’s investment management process and the quantitative analysis of the performance, asset allocation and style consistency.
  • Complete due diligence on managers under consideration for use within one of the portfolios.
  • Manage on-going monitoring and evaluation of current manager line-up.
  • Review managers per their own stated objectives documents and purpose versus a comprehensive list of quantitative and qualitative factors to identify  and certify appropriate for use.
  • Supplies ad-hoc data analysis supporting the department, Investment Committee and Tribal Council.
  • Utilize investment knowledge, available resources and sound judgement to evaluate investment managers or investment strategies based upon appropriate benchmarks and peer universe.
  • Understand and evaluate portfolio characteristics to create relevant reporting.
  • Mentor and coach other investment oriented Treasury Department staff.
  • Monitor and review all investment portfolios, investment strategies, and investment holdings as may be employed by the Tribe.
  • Understand cash flow needs of each respective portfolio and possess the appropriate proficiency to articulate how those needs may be impacted by the underlying investment strategies and holdings in a given portfolio and making corresponding recommendations.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times.  Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Contact with all Treasury staff, Tribal Council, and Senior Accounting positions with the Tribe for research and analysis of investment strategies and investment holdings.   
  • Contact with Investment Committee, Custodian, Financial Advisor, Consultants, and third party financial firm representatives to discuss strategies and to conduct investment activities relating to the goals and objectives of the Tribe’s strategic plan, cash management needs, and future projects. 

Minimum Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Seven years investment analysis, investment management, investment strategy and investment research.
  • Experience with discretionary investment management, including but not limited asset allocation and manager selection.
  • Experience with investment analytics and database software, e.g. Bloomberg, M orningstar Direct and/or Zephyr StyleAdvisor, et al.
  • Expert with Microsoft Office Suite and various investment software systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and work well under pressure to meet critical deadlines.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or MS in Business, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • CFA certification.
  • Experience with investment products, strategy and research.

 

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, investment strategies, standard principles, theory, and practices of accounting.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.
  • Skill in budget preparation and administration.

  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally walk and stand and reach with arms and hands.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

 

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment. 
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
