Summary of Duties and Responsibilities This a full-time seasonal position (7-9 months/year) located at the Coeur d'Alene Tribe Natural Resources Department's Fisheries Program.  The primary responsibility is to function as part of a fisheries crew that will complete all fieldwork for the Coeur d'Alene Tribe Fisheries Program. 

 

  • Under the supervision of a Tribal Fisheries Biologist and Technician Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the collection of fisheries and water quality data on Coeur d'Alene Lake and various streams.
  • Assist with implementation of restoration projects, including but not limited to building fences, planting trees and shrubs, replacing stream culverts, improving road conditions, installing instream structures, and construction of natural stream channels.
  • Assist with assessments of stream habitats, forest road conditions and forestry practices.
  • Accept responsibility for the proper maintenance and operation of all field equipment, which may include boats, electroshocking unit, survey equipment, nets and traps, hydrolab and flow meter, etc.
  • Maintain vehicles and heavy equipment in good repair and complete vehicle reports, mileage accounts, and accident reports as required.
  • Tasks may include the use of equipment such as trailers, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, ATV’s, chainsaws, power drills, and various hand tools.
  • Follow safety procedures for all tasks and equ8ipment used.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities and hours worked.
  • Attend all necessary and required training and staff meetings.

 Desirable Qualifications

  • Prior fisheries or natural resources related experience.
  • Prior experience in heavy equipment, construction, machine shop, or welding.
  • Completion of college courses, primarily natural resources.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Previous work experience with favorable employee evaluations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, at time of application and during employment, and proof of insurance.
  • Physically fit, able to lift and carry heavy equipment, swim and wade.
  • Work flexible hours in the outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Must have good writing skills, computer literacy and be able to follow directions.
  • Must be punctual, cooperative, respectful, reliable and willing to work as part of a team.
  • Able to communicate well with co-workers and the public.
