POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the Public Health Nurse is responsible for assessing patient health problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining medical records for patients. This position will focus on providing standard public health/nursing services to individuals and families in homes and at the SSHWC Clinic.  

 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts home or in-office visits for patients as needed
  2. Administers medications to patients, both oral and injectable.
  3. Maintains client and program related documentation
  4. Educates patients and community on health principles, nutrition, disease process, appropriate care and available resources
  5. Participates in communicable disease epidemiological investigations
  6. Provides health maintenance and disease and injury prevention education to individuals or groups
  7. Conducts medical or comprehensive Case Management of patient/client caseload
  8. Provides direct patient/client services including, but not limited to Direct Observed Therapy (DOT), immunizations, assessments and health screening activities
  9. Provides individual- and community-based outreach activities
  10. Participates in emergency/disaster preparedness and response.
  11. Participates in population-based community assessments.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1.  Bachelor's of Science in Nursing is required.
  2.  A minimum of two (2) years full-time nursing experience in public health; (an advanced degree in   nursing, or public health related field, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)
  3.  Current and valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse; AND
  4.  Current valid California Public Health Nurse Certificate; AND
  5.  Current valid BLS/CPR certification; AND
  6.  Must have a current and valid California Driver's License and qualify for the Tribe’s insurance.
  7.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  8.  Working closely with Native American populations is preferred.

DRUG SCREEN

Shingle Springs Rancheria requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired.  The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.

Shingle Springs Rancheria recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing.  Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.

BACKGROUND CHECK

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired.  Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

Preference in hiring is given to the most qualified applicant.  However, when candidates for an open position are determine to be equally qualified, Native American candidates will have preference for hiring purposes. This means that if the qualifications of the best candidates are comparable, the Native American candidate is given preference.  The following order of preference shall be adhered to when hiring: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians members; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court or the State of California) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; 4) All other documented Native Americans; 5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
